FTA Conferences
The International Seville Conference on Future-Oriented Technology Analysis (FTA) has become a major occasion for FTA experts, practitioners and decision-makers to bring their ideas and knowledge together in a highly interactive environment on a regular basis.
The FTA acronym refers to strategic foresight, forecasting and technology assessment, and the FTA Conferences place emphasis on diversity of views by attracting participants from a wide geographical base.
Academics, practitioners as well as public and private sector decision makers from Europe, North America, Asia, Latin America, Africa and Australasia are invited to broaden the network and to increase understanding of advances in the field of FTA.
Three FTA Conferences have so far been organised at the JRC-IPTS in Seville, Spain, and the next Conference will be organised in Spring 2011:
- The 2011 Conference will take place on 12-13 May and will focus on “FTA and Grand Societal Challenges - Shaping and Driving Systemic and Structural Transformations”. The call for papers is open until 23 November 2010 and to contribute please click here. Best contributions will be considered for special issues on key scientific outlets.
- The 2008 Conference placed a special emphasis on the “impacts and implications of FTA for policy and decision-making processes”. In addition, two workshops focused on network building in the FTA community and on capacity building with focus on evaluating FTA. Special issues containing best contributions to the conference were produced in Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Futures, Technology Analysis and Strategic Management, and Science and Public Policy.
- The 2006 Seminar focused upon the “impact of FTA approaches on policy and decision-making” and placed emphasis on the delivery of concrete and valued policy outcomes and impacts from FTA activities. Special issues containing best contributions to the conference were produced in Technological Forecasting and Social Change, and Technology Analysis and Strategic Management. The event also resulted in a book published by Springer.
- The 2004 EU-US Seminar on FTA focused on “new horizons and challenges for future-oriented technology analysis”. Its main objective was to take stock of the recent expansion of FTA by looking at conceptual development, research on improved methods, methodological choice, or how best to merge empirical/analytical methods with stakeholder engagement processes. The conclusions of this conference are documented in the conference proceedings and a special issue in Technological Forecasting and Social Change.
The next FTA Conference will take place in 2011 at the JRC-IPTS in Seville, Spain. As soon as the date of the conference and deadlines for submitting papers are fixed, they will appear here.
